With the bases loaded and the score tied at 2-2 with two outs in the 12th inning, junior Jacob Hartman took a 1-1 pitch in the ribs to bring home Brandon Fields with the first of five runs in the inning as Baseball took down host Lake Brantley, 7-2, in the Regional Quarterfinal. CJ Cantwell and Sebastian Oetterer beat out consecutive infield singles to score August Haymaker and Will Sullivan to push the lead to 6-2 and James Hurst capped the rally, reaching on an error that allowed Hartman and Cantwell to score. DP (16-13) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning when Sebastian Oetterer reached on an error that allowed Jacob Hartman to score and James Hurst followed up with an RBI single to left to bring home CJ Cantwell. DP pitching was sensational throughout the game. Senior starting pitcher Cort Roedig threw no-hit ball and struck out six in four and two-thirds innings of work but two errors in the field with two outs in the fifth allowed the Patriots to tie the game. Logan Bryan relieved Roedig and was equally effective, allowing no hits and striking out two over two and a third innings before Mitchell Stockwell came on in the eighth inning. Stockwell delivered another gem of an outing, scattering five hits over five innings, allowing no runs while fanning four to pick up the victory. Will Sullivan finished 2-5 with two doubles and a run scored, Brandon Fields went 2-6 with a run, CJ Cantwell was 3-5 with an RBI and scored twice while Sebastian Oetterer went 2-5 and knocked in two runs. DP will now advance to the Regional Semifinal where they’ll get another crack at District rival and host Boone, Tuesday at 4:00 pm.
